A quick and dirty first light of the Cone Nebula with my new Celestron EdgeHD 8"
This was four hours of LRGB at the scope's native F/10. I binned the sub exposures by 2x2 to help deal with oversampling and poor seeing.
I clearly have some issues with collimation and focus, possibly pinched optics, and guiding performance... But I'll figure it out with time. What is evidently clear, is that imaging at such long focal lengths will be challenging!

🎶 It's me, hi - I brought the clouds, it's me. 🎶
You can blame me for your cloudy nights. I got a new (to me) mount and telescope!
iOptron CEM40
Celestron EdgeHD 8"
I'm looking forward to equipping the EdgeHD 8 for galaxy season and other small targets. And eventually branching out to planetary/solar/lunar photography.
The second pic is my primary deep-sky imaging rig (Svbony SV550) on the CEM40. My CEM26 may end up relegated to super wide-field shoots with the Samyang 135mm, we shall see.

After a long time sitting on my raw eclipse photos from earlier this year... I've finally gotten around to making a stacked composite of the solar corona at totality.
To be honest, I'm surprised that I was able to reveal the moon's surface in this shot at all. I was pretty certain I had overexposed all of the longer subs I had taken in those frantic 4 minutes... Maybe I did, but this seemed to work anyway.
In other news... shameless plugs!
I am happy to share I have launched a website, Facebook page, and Etsy shop from which I am selling prints of my work. If you enjoy my content and would like to see more of it in more places, I'd love it if you had a look.

Finally joining in on the comet mania for C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS!
The first pic was captured by a 80mm F/6 refractor, with star tracking. A blend of several 15 and 30 second exposures through LRGB filters, and *painfully* stacked and composited with Siril, StarNet, and Affinity Photo.
The second photo with the wider FOV is a result from stacking ~650 1 second untracked photos from my DSLR on a simple tripod. This was through a 135mm F/2 lens. My poor laptop...
These turned out pretty well, but I am glad to be done with Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. Comets are a pain in the rear to process while avoiding obvious photographic artifacts.
Time lapse of last night's #aurora from my front yard 🙂
IC 443, also known as the Jellyfish Nebula.
The nebula is believed to have originated from a supernova explosion that occurred approximately 30,000 years ago in the constellation Gemini. It lies approximately 5,000 light-years away from Earth and spans about 50 light-years across. To our eyes, it would be about two full moons in size.

Breaking a long hiatus to share (mostly starless) images of the Cygnus Loop! This is a two panel mosaic captured over a few nights. Keep swiping for closeups and the starry version.
The Cygnus Loop is a large supernova remnant located in the constellation Cygnus. A supernova remnant is the structure left behind by the explosion of a dying star.
The Cygnus Loop is approximately 3 degrees in diameter, or about 6 full moons across the night sky. It is estimated that the nebula is 1470ly away, 120ly in diameter, and 20000 years old.
